Gone

We stand in an endless line
Awaiting food for another day
The guards stand motionless with weapons at ready
So if there's trouble you had better run
When we were little we would listen to stories
The old folks told about the world before
A land of plenty, they'd even throw food away
But this is too impossible to be true

There's no emotion to see on our faces
We've all been trained to be exactly the same
Indoctrinated to refrain from expression
The nail that’s raised up gets hammered down
Imagination is only for service
And even then only when it's been approved
So if you're thinking, you're already guilty
A life of pitfalls and catch-22s

There is no record of what came before us
And all the old folks have long since disappeared
But we're too busy to worry about it
Or we fear to question authority
We do our part to build a prosperous future
The leadership promised to one day reveal
But as the years pass I find myself doubting
And if they find out I know I'll disappear

It's hopeless
It's pointless
To be thinking
For yourself...
